Demo Review--The Shannon Richardson Band--

3 Song Demo Review

Shannon Richardson Band

Real Musicians---I Don't Know? In Time Hopefully

A Chicago based band that contacted me through Craigslist where I have our writing services for musicians listed.Shannon Richardson Band is probably more of a Jack Johnson type band.I didn't say they sounded like Jack.

They're kind of a cutsie band. And no I've never seen them live. I've only seen blues and rock bands in my travels to Chicago. Shannon is the leader and Chris McGowan plays bass. And John Park on drums.

The SRB is a self made band who do their own material which is one of the better traits of this band.Their more of a band that the teenager/college set would like more than anything.Great for getting women though.

There seemed to be nothing that told me what the band was really all about, and showed any real artistic integrity.I'm hoping they learn from real musicians and not just players who go through the motions.

If you're a real rocker, chances are you won't like it.These guys need to compose and make real music.Maybe I don't get it.But I like real musicians who play hip music.

I hope Shannon and his guys become creative as they get more time in this music thing. Here's the review guys.

Beautiful Life Is

An almost pop-esque C&W like in their take on this tune.A little too much 90's rock influence though. They have fun playing B Life is,but I get the feeling Bible Thumpers and 14 year old girls would like this tune more than anyone.

Maybe I'm just a rocker.Could it be a hit? Not in my world.

For myself the song wasn't strong lead wise.It wasn't strong until near the end when Bass and drum phrasing and feel came together.

To Save The World:

Had kind of a live feel which was evident in the first song. But they're still being too influenced, and not playing their own material their way.Playing didn't flow like a band that's in sync lead and rhythm wise. The fluidity and hooks in their tracks
will catch the eye and ear of some major label who can exploit them.

But they need a lot of work.Actually some good funk based and percussive chops, but weren't used at the right times. And lead guitar seemed to lag.

Get Up:

More of a jamming song that seemed like just another filler tune. Seemed like a modern be-bop like song that's danceable.Their chops still need a lot of work and be willing to go the next level with a lot of trial and error, and be willing to take Bad reviews like mine. I am hoping they can create their own distinctive tone--feel and intensity all their own.

And maybe inspire a player or two. Here comes the ribbing from my
musician friends about doing this review.Ahhhhh!

I'm sure you understand seeing as you started it. As far as your reviews on the individual songs I actually like them for some of the outside insight. I and we have had many reviews as a solo and a band but yours takes the beef cake I think to be the most blatantly against us. Any new opinion and angle of view is valid to be heard in my ears. But could Beautiful Life Is be a Hit? You can bet your nutsack and while maybe not in your world, Ha but well we don't really care about your worlds view on ours because yours' is a fucking cell compared to the fat ass rock called EARTH that billions of people of all sorts are living on with us. Loving, hating, living, killing, making art, making music, making food, making sex, making babies, getting into things, getting out of things, making war, fighting for freedom, taking freedom, fighting for belief, building for a future, destroying futures in this life and the next. I'm going to use the fact that I know my shit stinks just like yours and throw it right back at you. For instance you are writing reviews but you are making all kinds of grammar and spelling errors in the very reviews you wrote about my band then posting them online. I mean seriously how do you bad mouth something in front of everyone being a writer with such a retarded hand on the meaning and lettering of words? Most of all I want to know how you summed us up as a band and myself as an artist as not real musicians, not artists, lacking integrity, not creative and on down your sad ass lines. I have been singing since I was 4, playing guitar since I was 10, writing songs since I was elven, recording songs since I was 13, playing live shows since I was 14. The band I am in now is REAL Musicicans and we had been together 6 months as a band when we recorded that demo in a basement and you did a review on it. We have now been together for a little over a year and within our time as a band we have played over 40 shows, have been played on several FM radio stations, tens of internet stations, podcasts, been on cable television 3 times, Ha the song you say only 14 year olds and Bible thumpers will like, that one is #2 on ourstage.com and has been for the last two weeks. We have found some studios and engineers now to get behind us and we are beginning to get real good studio time for free. They like us and our music. Unfortunately we have to show up at 9am since it's on their time but we do and we will. We are broke in money but rich in music and jams. We can no longer afford to pay our practice spot so I found us a spot in this crazy wierd kick ass building that is empty except a guy living with a recording studio down stairs who wants a band roomate. He likes us and our music so he is going to let us create a studio of our own there for next to nothing. When one door closes another one opens and we are all hoping for the best on this. By the way when I first moved into Downtown Chicago I got a bunch of weekly gigs playing at this chain of sandwich shops 20 an hour, I had 5 or 6 shops a week within no time. Then I went and got a street musicians license and busked the shit out of shy town, Subways, Michigan Ave., Water Tower you name it. Then I met some cats that had me playing in a couple night clubs here and there for 100 bucks a night. My rent was like 700 a month living in the Gold Coast. I handled that solo off music for over a year. My band has just as radical stories to. I think your site is cool Mark, I think your reviews are cool to. We actually play a lot of Rock stuff you haven't gotten to hear but yeah. Don't take any of it any harder than you have to and nieghther will we. I think you're cool man and I hope to be friends and learn more from each other, network. Those songs and sounds are ours and any souls who choose to embrace them. Many do and guess what that makes us MR MARK? As real as a musician will ever be able to be in this life. Artists of high integrity. We are here for the music, for the love of it and the everyone else who loves it.
