Jack DeKeyser--One Of Canada's Best Bluesmen Is A Player Other Musicians Should Learn From
Jack Dekeyser is literally one of the hardest working bluesmen and musician's period. He's played on the road literally for decades learning from the best such as being a consummate sideman with the great Harp player King Biscuit Boy--and one of North America's best band leaders and country player Ronnie Hawkins. DeKeyzer has his own blues band and has given it his all like a true blues musician.
This song "Engine Trouble" is done with great Canadian session players such as Sax great Chris Murphy and if I'm correct, well known Toronto Harp player Jerome Godboo. Don't quote me on it. If I'm wrong tell me. I'm sorry if I left out the other sax player and bass player which I do not know.
Jack plays in a way that it becomes a "Blues Clinic". Even when he flubs it becomes an element of his repertoire that just flows into the next great riff. I've seen Jack a number of times and he's also become a great jazz guitarist as well which I saw at one of the last Firehall blues concerts here in Canada.
Players, watch Jack and practice by playing to this great tune. Record it in audio to learn in an even better way. Kind of like playing to an analog record. It will improve your playing. Kind of like playing blind.
I'll have more on Jack in upcoming articles and possibly an interview. Just watch this great video. I'm not big on horn sections since I'm strictly a guitar, bass and drums blues lover--but Jack's band make it work in a number of ways.
