Max Ramm, a 21 year old axeman in LA wowed me the other day with two simply played MP3's on his ad he had on Craigslist. Normally I'm never impressed with MP3's or EP's for that matter. But this one just floored me with how original this kid plays, and the way his laid back rock stylings took me back to the 70's when I first started becoming enamored with music on a big level. Max hasn't got much of a resume as a player about town, but has the drive and will to make it as a great player more than most.
Max has been in LA for about 5 years and hooked up with Jen Leigh jenleigh.com who has become a teacher to Max in the finer ways of being a real rock guitar player and as a mentor of sorts to Max. Max learned to appreciate rock music from an early age from tooling around with his dad listening to rock radio in his car. Bands with players like Angus Young from AC/DC and Tom Petty really got Max thinking that being a rock musician is really where he needed to be heading. Max also states that he loves the history of rock n' roll, especially decades gone by, and he says that rock n' roll has lost it's way. I personally know blues cats who feel the same and Max is in good company in that respect.
Not many parents today give their sons the blessing to become full time musicians, but Max has parents that see this is something that he needs to not just be a part of, but give everything he has to become not just a great player, but give back to other musicians, the music community and fans as well. Currently, Max is looking for a new band to work with and putting his own project in place, and taking his writing and playing beyond the basement stage. As well, Max is focusing on writing and studio work to propel him to becoming an adept band leader and sideman. Actually, Max's lack of real world experience has helped him work on his playing and songwriting, and educate himself on how to be a real musician. You'll see big things from Max Ramm in the near future in the LA music scene. So be ready and grab on tight, it'll take you back to what real rock guitar is all about. But here's a little tidbit below from Max for you to think about fellow players and fans.

Hey guys, take a listen to Max's MP3's which are simple, basic and take me back to the late 60's and 70's Analog like feel. The way I think most players should start anyway. Think about it, if you can't be creative recording a song on Analog equipment, don't do it on digital equipment until you can. Just click the link below.

These are just two songs with Max playing only. It may sound a little rough and more blues like, but that's the foundation I'm glad Max is starting from. And the way most players need to start from. Look for big things from Maxx in the Los Angeles music scene in the coming months. I'll also have some interviews with Max on the blog to boot.
