How To Use Reverse Engineering To Get Media Attention And Fans To Your Gigs
March 4, 2010 - Thursday
Musicians can't get media interviews? Tis' simple Lads. I've talked about getting media attention for your band for years now. It's easy to get Free Publicity yet most bands never take the time to even made a half fast attempt at getting media interviews. One of the things you need to do to get media interviews is learn how to create value for someone else. Offer something for free to local music journalists, radio guys or Entertainment TV reporters.
Free tickets, Free CDs or offer to interview the interviewer. Put those interviews on your site and interview the music journalist at one of your gigs. It's kind of like reverse engineering. Seeing the cup as full instead of empty. And you're helping the media spread, as well as your band's name. What you could to help get your band name out there even further is have a night dedicated to something stupid a Hollywood Celebrity did recently to get music fans out to your gigs. Or something like "Slash gets Sasquash playing blues guitar like a Pro." Or have a night dedicated to a well known musician through your music journalism contact.
You could even interview well known musicians in your genre at your gigs to get people to come out. There is always a way to bring media and fans to your gigs, buy your CDs and help out other bands to get a cut of their action. Bands, can't get media attention? Do it yourself. Interview your own band members, host Q and A sessions for fans at your gigs, and write articles on aspects of music your band members know. Like recording tips, guitar and gear tips etc.
These are Free simple tips to make your own press kit. Basic articles, bios on your band and doing the same thing for other bands. Open up for bands for free and offer to interview them. Have those interviews on your site. It's simple guys. Hard work but simple. The best media you can get is either doing it yourself or College media. They love bands who do it themselves, and do it their way. Take on a college journalism student who likes your music, and is looking for free guitar lessons. Offer them freebies to your gigs as well. If they can be trusted, get them to sell your CDs at your gigs for you for a cut of the profits. This way they will continue to add to your press kit for free while your band makes money gigging and selling CDs.
These are dead, stupid simple tips guys. I'll have another media and press kit tip in a few days.
