Yep. I was just reading a very illuminating article by one of my favorite writers John Carlton. I've mentioned him numerous times and have had links to his material: which can help musicians.
But back to the task at hand. You've run into musicians who think they're better than anyone else, yet can't play shit. Yet they wonder how no one has them in their band? Duh. They don't have what it takes period. Just the way it is.
Yet, they won't practice or get the help they need. Actually, these guys have a screw loose. They brag about their greatness, yet have never accomplished anything music wise. You can't avoid these lads, they're every- where. And they won't ever do anything.

Very few musicians actually are really great, and when you come across a good one despite some faults, don't push them under the bus. Hold on and let them be in your band. Especially if they can add an element of their own style on guitar that complements the band as well. And that is rare as well.
So, that's basically my take on musicians who just don't get it and can't ever get it in their head they won't be any good. I'm going to leave a link to John Carlton's article on Incompetence. He's a businessman and writer who's also an accomplished guitarist out there in Nevada.
He's right on the money with his article. His article has many little illuminating pieces of info for musicians into why people are incompetent and actually why I think you need to weed out the flake guitarists fast, if they're trying to convince you how good they are.
I implore you to read John's piece. It's funny and a little depressing to know so many musicians and people from all walks of life don't have the goods, and still think they're great. Actually, I think they're a few bricks shy, the hamster wheel doesn't go to the top, or: you get the picture.
Alright, here's the link to John's telepathy into why people think they're great but really aren't.
Yes, this piece relates to musicians like I keep saying.
