I've been talking to a number of musicians lately on their favorite albums of all time. Most seem to go with mainstream music and not be into progressive material. That doesn't sit well with me personally. One of the best albums ever composed takes music into the stratosphere for me.
It was composed with alternate time signatures, and had arranged music for lyrics that most bands would not go near. Even the best players today use this band as a starting point. This band wanted no part of mainstream music. Lets just say their music took you on a progressive journey, most bands could not. I'd like you to listen to this album. It's tough to understand where they're coming from sonically, and within the framework of any musician. But I think if you study their music, you'll slowly get it and
even take your thinking further because of their lyrics--not just the music. Okay, here's the link to it. Even if you're a player who can't seem to play upper tempo music, just listen to this music and try to play along on guitar. I always say to grab the old vinyl album and play along. You'll hear things you don't with digital. Okay, I've said enough, now go take a listen to this. It's more than worth your time. http://youtu.be/pqQN0EX2iHQ
