How To Create Value For Musicians And Succeed As A Musician As Well

What can you do to service other musicians and create value for them? Not what you can get out of it. Too many of us seem to think it's all about making money and living an extraordinary life. That's a goal we all strive for including me. But how can you help others in music by showing them you need to help others in your field before yourself?

I deal with musicians who mainly think that it's all about them, and think if they can just get a national tour going and sell 10's of thousands of albums, life will be grand. Not so. I met a Toronto based blues artists in the late 80's who helped other musicians by writing articles, getting them free media and even opening for his band. Most bands he helped just wanted a free ride, but he kept on helping bands because it was important to serve others. His blues band opened for some of the top bluesmen, and he even went out of his way to create value for bands that had already hit it big!

He didn't ask for anything in return. He now lives in New York state and still helps bands, is on tour regionally and runs his own blues label.

So, help other musicians before your own band. You'll succeed more as a result.
