Part 2--How Your Band Can Sell More Cds--And Create Massive Value For Fans and Other Bands

By Mark Grove

Okay,I thought Canadian Guitar Player readers needed a second part so I decided to get busy and write like crazy. This 2nd part will go over things you need to do both online and offline to sell more CDs for your band. When people actually buy your CD's at your gigs, get them to leave their email address and snail mail address. The email address allows you to send them monthly updates on where your band is playing, any jams you're at and any new albums in the works.

Having a snail mail address will work to your advantage a lot more than an email to get people to buy. Most fans will discard emails, and mail is more efficient in getting people to act than an email. This is why I suggest creating a list you can send mail to so you cover both their regular mailing address and their email addresses.By  sending your fans something like a postcard with their name on it,it makes them feel important.

Send the postcard with a picture of your band on it and relevant info like the band website, tour dates, fan appreciation sessions and any jam sessions and new albums they can listen to online.Include interviews of your band and an area on your site where fans can send you questions.I'm not big on forums though.

It just creates gossip more than anything.

Canadian Guitar Player

Believe me conducting business offline selling at gigs and through direct mail with postcards, will make your band more money than online ever will.Offline is "Pure gold".

Creating Value For Fans

Creating value for fans is also vital.Free tickets to gigs, free eps for purchasing a regular cd,and making them feel part of your world by asking them questions on what they want to see from your band.Any jam sessions, studio sessions and press conferences make your fans a part of it by letting them attend.

Get a fan to interview your band at the gig or jam.Sounds like a lot of work and it is,but damn worth it!

Creating Massive Value For Other Bands:

Interview other bands and have them open up for you, there by creating value for them, fans and the music community.Even if the bands you have open for you don't make any money at first, take ones that are willing to work to help not just themselves but the fans.

Interview bands, write articles for them, have them open for you and have your band open for them and other bands.Help other bands and create value for your fans.

This will take action on your part but well worth it.

Email me if you need help with anything I've mentioned.
