New Randall Bass Amps for the Power your heavy Music Deserves

By Mark Grove

Back in May of this year Randall came out with a new line of Bass amps and Cabs. I was surprised to see them at a jam session for a club I frequent weekly. For the most part, bands that play three or four times a week or just play "a shit of heavy material need these amps and cabs on the road. Randall always amazes me. Now you know why guys like Dimebag always used Randall products.

These amps and cabs actually were quite accommodating for a blues type setting and music. I was very surprised. After the gig I immediately tried to find out all I could about those Randall amps and cabs. Here's what I found. Randall Bass amps, the RB 750 were called Valve Dynamic or VD for short. Yes, venereal disease guys.

What impressed me was a studio like setting of it's compression module and that actually enhanced it's performance. And the performance was still there even at low levels of intensity.

Randall Amps have the Tone and Performance able to take the Punishment most amps can't

You could set it low like an amp with half it's power and still get what you wanted. There is also a module to be able to use a foot switch for Overdrive. And to top it off, the RB 750 uses a power circuit like tube, which is not quite a tube, and can handle the use and abuse most heavy players punish it with.

I thought the amp should have been better able to handle the power at lower levels, but grinded it out barely able to handle the lower volumes. The RB 750 seems to be better suited to music with more of a Bass driven mid-range, not even a blues/rock
like texture.

The Randall Bass amp used was an RB412XLT and a 4x10 and clocked in at $1,099.00 while the Bass Series VD amp clocked in at 1,599.00. The Cab was at about 600 watts.

I felt that the guy using the RB 412 could have used one with more of an equal wattage so there aren't any problems with handling power onstage. These two combo units are great for players putting out heavy material and need Bass amps and Cabs that will literally take that punishment on the road like a champ.
