Illuminating 1973 Keith Richards Interview Teaches You How To Be An Indie Musician Who Plays Their Own Way And Doesn't Listen To Traditional Media
Didn't I tell you in previous posts guys never to listen or use mainstream media? I'd never seen this Keith Richards interview and he basically said that mainstream media and most people don't have a clue to being a real musician, or ask intelligent questions or opinions on music and the world. Basically if you're going to be a musician who plays music you need it to say that it's all yours and not influenced by others.
You need to study the blues and rock greats, but after a certain point develop your own style, tone and feel. As well you need to play and compose material that is close to or better than what you originally put out years ago. Your original intentions need to be front and center. You can record your own material that takes blues and rock to a higher level as the artist you can be.Play and record your own bloody material!
Keith also talks briefly about playing with other players besides The Stones but never came out. I feel most bluesmen never come out with great material or play jams and gigs that take their live session playing to a higher place as well.Basically, if you're going to be a working musician that's a real artist you need to move past influences and play your way on an album or playing live. But don't make music for fans, just your band.
If anyone else likes it,great!
