Free--Be My Friend--Why it's a Great Tune To Learn From And It's Forgotten Guitar Player

I was looking through some material from the band Free on Youtube in the early 70's. one of the most forgotten guitarist's is Paul Kossoff. He's one of the better more natural blues players; kind of in the same vein as Slash believe it or not.

Most fans of Free talk about their vocalist Paul Rodgers. Yeah, he's great but I'd love to see a retrospective on Paul Kossoff. He was one of the 60's and early 70's more textural feeling players period. This song has a blues and R & B feel. As well, for you guitar players take a look at Paul's Gibson and the Orange amp and Orange Cabinet he's using in the video.

That tells you something right there as well. Because Orange came out with new Blues amps in the last couple years if I'm correct. This is a great tune--Be My Friend. But focus on how this band plays this tune.

But don't play Orange amps or a Gibson because Paul used them. Use an amp and guitar that's right for you. Just because you play what top players use, doesn't mean you'll play like them. So, watch this video and get your band to learn it and play in your set list and at blues jams. It's well worth it guys.
