Progressive Rock Drummer Virgil Donati Documentary On His Material---And Why You Should Educate Yourself On His Material And Apply His Way of Composing

I've been on a tear lately putting up regular posts here on Canadian Guitar Player. I came across  this Drummer Virgil Donati, who is one of Progressive rock's most accomplished drummers and composers. Actually, I came across Virgil a little more than 10 years ago when he was playing with Ex- Dream Theater keyboard player Derek Sherinian who's carved his own niche with a lot of top musicians.

Donati has come well into his own not just as a Jazz/Fusion drummer, but been able to put together players who's ability on their respective instruments take you on a journey. In this short documentary on Virgil, they focus on how they record one of his albums, and how Virgil wants his session players to set up and apply each track so each note is heard and there is not just power chops, but more feeling in each note and riff when playing. As well, to combine elements of not just rock, but classical and jazz like chording.

Anyone who's a lover of instrumental guitar and progressive type movements will want to go out and grab one of Virgil's albums pronto!! So, watch this short documentary on Donati and take your music listening to another level. Oh, and grab Virgil's album, "In This Life".
