How do you create your tone?

I ask this question because I think it's so important for musicians to develop your own tone without having to rely on effects when you're first getting started as a musician.

Yes, at some point using effects can help give your music what it needs to take it up a notch,but I find most musicians color it too much with effects and think their tone and playing is getting better and better. I beg to differ guys.
