How To Learn From Black Sabbath's Live Version Of: Symtom Of The Universe

Yep, that's one of my favorite Sabbath tunes and a great one for your band to learn from if you tend to play heavier music. Since we can't see Ozzy with Sabbath anymore i thought I'd grab this great video of theirs from back in 1978 when they were on tour playing in London, England.

If you notice in the video if you're listening is the heavy reliance on Bass. I do wish they would have had more shots of Geezer Butler in all his Bottom-Feeding glory though. As well, both Geezer and Iommi play in lock step with each other. Basically Geezer adapting lead guitar parts and Tony playing bass type leads.

Ozzy and his voice are pretty strained but he was belting it out despite that. One thing I think players should do and take action on from this video is to take some of what Geezer or Iommi is doing and adapt it to some of your heavy music. You could even jam with your lead guitarist and see if some of Sabbath's stylings and
gear settings are right for your music.

Live music is the best teacher of all. Whether it's seeing it live, or listening to a CD or watching a video. If you have a take on any of this just email me: mdgrove@rock.com

So learn from this video and go forth bringing your heavy music to the people.
