John Bonham--Jimmy's Ace In The Hole Still Thrills True Rock Lovers With His Percussive Style Despite Being Gone For 36 Years

John Bonham, what ever you think of the Led Zeppelin Drummer doesn't much matter. Jimmy Page as far as I know from one of his books, said he thought Bonham was the only one who could take
Zeppelin's percussive sound to a whole new level.

I always thought of Bonham more as a drummer who could figure things out space phrasing wise easily, even if there wasn't a bass player.
Reminds me of some blues drummers I've met over the years, who could just latch right on to the way the lead guitar was playing, and just "Hit The Note." One of my favorite tracks with Bonham featured was a live version of the wheel chair piece called "Achilles Last Stand" from the 1979 Knebworth Festival.
This particular song drove hard rock further ahead in creating music that very few bands are capable of doing. I've never been a huge lover of Zeppelin, but composition, live playing and production wise,if it wasn't for players like Bonham and Page, music in the 70's would have back tracked, and we would have depended on producers to take up the slack like Mickie Most.
That unfortunately wouldn't have been a good scenario.
Today is Bonham's birthday and he passed on in booze filled glory. So raise a glass or two of yer' favorite brew to the man who could just hear a note or two from a lead guitar, bass or vocals, and create a whole new twist on drums.
I'm not going to put up a pic because I imagine the majority are copyrighted despite the free images from Google, which unless owned by Google outright are still violating copyright.
Oh,and listen to some Zeppelin today. Not on the radio, an actual vinyl album. If you buy an old Zeppelin album, I think that keeps their tradition more alive than listening to new remastered versions, even though Jimmy had a hand in it.
And Bonham would be proud.
PS: head on over to the old blog for Markie and grab some knowledge for all you musicians who need a pick me up,and learn something from Jimmy Page on producing.
It won't hurt one bit, unless ya' like that kinda thing.
